    The Problem: The website suffered from poor navigation, overwhelming users with numerous pages and information, and lacking clear calls-to-action, making it difficult for users to engage effectively.

    Skills:

    1. Analysis: What is the mission statement? How does the user take action?

      • Home Page: LOTS of info, no clear path or mission for user to follow

      • Functionality: lacking a search button, navigation titles were confusing

    2. User Research: Surveys, interviews, and meetings with the stakeholder clarified the company's and the user's goals.

      • User Insight: Users have a preference for accessible and community-oriented contributions to the cause. Users would also like to see educational content on the site in order to stay informed.

      • New question: "How can we arrange the information architecture to seamlessly guide our user to donate and get involved?"

    3. Iterating:

      • Restructured information architectureto ease navigation and clarify categorization

      • Modified home page to introduce the company at a glance, and answer "first impression" questions from our interviews

      • Created and implemented user interface style guide to have a more cohesive and accessible design.

    4. Testing: Took user feedback and added new features.

      • Added progress bar for long pages (allows user to know what lies ahead without getting overwhelmed by scrolling)

      • Decreased frequency of "donate" buttons and replaced with other ways to get involved (users wanted to support in more ways than just monetary)

    5. Final Prototype

  • The Solution: We revamped the website's information architecture, adopting a minimalist and aesthetic design approach to present information in clear, manageable chunks. By enhancing navigation and streamlining the user journey, we aimed to provide a seamless and straightforward experience, ensuring users could easily find relevant information and engage with sign-up processes for volunteering and events.

Case Study- App Design

  • My Role: UX/UI designer (group)

    The Problem: Many young professionals struggle to prioritize their personal and professional lives with digital distractions always at their fingertips. They desire to manage their own digital activity, and free time. How might we provide young professionals control over their own productivity?

    Skills:

    • User interface design

    Tools: Figma, FigJam, Adobe Suites

    1. User Research: Defined target demographics and behaviors, researched the psychology behind addictive phone usage, and completed surveys and interviews.

      • Main takeaway: Users are motivated by reducing their scrolling habits and using that recovered time for personal goals.

      • Competitor analysis showed a need for an app that: rewards the user, aids in restricting usage, and helps the user set goals

    2. Ideation & Iteration:

      • Feature Prioritization: Usage blocking, usage statistics, screentime and personal goal tracker, and productivity timer

      • User flow: Onboarding → tour of features and functionality →practice setting a limit and goal →where to find help

    3. User Interface Design: Brand vibe adjectives: calming, inspiring, playful. Colors were chosen based on color psychology to fit brand adjectives.

    4. Testing: Added "more information" buttons on home page to clarify the function of certain features. Also implemented more closing buttons for help tabs and pop up messages.

    5. Final Prototype

  • The Solution: Recess is a productivity and digital detox app that helps users regain their time and invest it into their goals.

Case Study - UX Research

  • My Role: UX designer

    The Problem: Travelers find it stressful to find the perfect destination for their preferences

    Skills:

    • UX research

    • Brand/product development

    • Learning new design tools (first project)

    1. User Research: My research began by conducting 5 interviews in order to discover how people decide on their travel destination. Interviewees shared a high priority for activity-based planning.

      • Interview quote 1:“It would be great to have an easier way to find what destinations suit my interests. I always consider what I want to do before I decide where I want to go.”

      • Problem Statement: Current travel websites allow for viewing popular activities and easily accessing reviews, however, they lack the ability to tailor searches beyond these elements. We have observed that travelers are frustrated by the lack of customizability, resulting in a long and frustrating research process. How might we eliminate unrelated results and allow users to tailor their searches with much more specificity based on their preferences?

    2. Ideation:

      • Competitor analysis-based goals: Usage history on home page, trustworthy reviews, explore page should link to related social media content

      • User flow: Onboarding → set up preference profile → view features

    3. Testing: Based on user feedback, these iterations were made

      • Splash screen fades to sign in page

      • Navbar text made larger

      • Added edit button to user profile

    4. Final Prototype

  • The Solution: Bespoke is a travel planning app that helps travelers match with destinations based on their preferences.
